CaneKast, a holding company for non-ferrous foundries, has acquired Southern Aluminum Foundry (SAF) in South Carolina, significantly expanding their geographic reach and capabilities. This acquisition is an exciting step in CaneKast’s mission to better serve customers by expanding coverage across the United States, ensuring we’re within reach of 90% of our buyers.

Strategic Expansion

Geographic Advantage: The acquisition of SAF strengthens CaneKast’s local presence in the Southeast, a region experiencing a surge in business relocations. This strategic move allows CaneKast to better serve customers in the area while offering a valuable alternative for companies shifting away from overseas supply chains.

Enhanced Capabilities: SAF has unique capabilities, including large automatics and a no-bake system, which allows CaneKast to expand its production capabilities. The facility also has a large physical footprint with almost 33 acres, offering significant expansion potential.

Upgraded Technology and Increased Capacity

Cutting-Edge Equipment: The South Carolina facility now operates a cutting-edge DISA MATCH 24/28 machine, the first of its kind in North America. This advanced equipment boosts production capacity, increasing the number of molds produced per hour from 3-4 to over 100.

Increased Production: The advanced automation at the SAF site increases production capacity and allows CaneKast to take on more work and serve more customers. This increased efficiency also allows CaneKast to significantly reduce lead times, offering turnaround times of less than one month.

A New Approach to Manufacturing

CaneKast’s acquisition of SAF signifies more than just a business deal—it underscores a commitment to innovation and growth in US-based manufacturing. By investing in cutting-edge technology, CaneKast has built a network of foundries that meet diverse customer needs while enhancing worker processes and significantly increasing production capacity. This commitment to revitalizing and modernizing domestic manufacturing exemplifies what it means to bring small manufacturing back to the United States.

The integration of SAF into the CaneKast network is an ongoing process. The company has brought in a new leadership team, each with 20+ years of experience in the foundry business. As CaneKast continues to grow, they plan to modernize and upgrade all of their facilities, ensuring they can continue to provide customers with the highest-quality products and services. CaneKast intends to share this manufacturing capacity with other foundries needing help with specific casting processes. We are happy to do the molding, cut off the gating, and ship the product to you.
